Michigan trooper wounded when shot by barricaded subject

FLINT, Michigan (AP) — Police say a state trooper was wounded when a man believed to be a fugitive killer opened fire from inside a Flint house in which he had barricaded himself for several hours.

State Police Lt. Brian Cole told reporters at the scene Wednesday evening that the trooper’s wounds aren’t life-threatening.

Houston Firefighter Daniel Groover killed in Kingwood

KINGWOOD, TX -- A veteran Houston firefighter has died from injuries he suffered in a two-alarm blaze at a Kingwood home.

The victim has been identified as Station 104 paramedic and firefighter Daniel Groover. He has been with the department since 1993.

Authorities say Groover was one of several firefighters who responded this afternoon to a house in the 1400 block of Mistletoe Lane near Redbud.

Officer critically burned after man sets himself on fire

CEDAR HILL, Texas — A female officer was critically burned and two others injured after a man set himself on fire in the parking lot of a Cedar Hill, Texas shopping center Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the suspect was also shot during a fight with officers at the scene. He was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital in unknown condition.

A police spokesman said three officers in all were injured. The critically injured officer was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital by air ambulance and the conditions of the others were not disclosed.

A U.S. Forest Service firefighter, on assignment in the Jemez Mountains, was moving a glass jar away from a fence post with his foot Monday afternoon when the jar exploded.

The firefighter, whose name has not yet been released, suffered a rash on his legs and an arm that was caused by the explosion, but no glass cuts, said Joel Marquez, the agent in charge at the Albuquerque field

One officer dead and another critical in domestic dispute

The two officers, Amy E. Young, 40, and Luis Monroig, 37, were shot this morning in what the Lee County Sheriff's Office is calling a domestic dispute.

Monroig later died from his injuries and Young is in critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Lee Memorial Hospital.

Naples Police Department records show that Sgt. Amy Young has had a sometimes troubled history with the agency.

She along with several other officers beginning in 2011 were caught up in an allegations of alleged sexual misconduct while on duty.

Officer George "Lee" Rehm

George "Lee" Rehm, 13 year veteran of the Port St. Lucie Police Department, was off-duty Wednesday, July 9, 2014 when he suffered a heart attack. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Rehm, age 40, began his career in law enforcement in 1998, and was a decorated officer having served as Neighborhood Policing Bureau, Road Patrol Officer, Criminal Investigations: Division Juvenile Detective, Special Investigations Division: Gang Unit Investigator, Field Training Officer, Directed Area Response Team, and Crisis Negotiation Team: Negotiator.

Governor declares period of mourning after 3 officers killed

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (FOX 32 News) - After three Indiana police officers were killed in the line of duty in the course of one week, Indiana Governor Mike Pence declared a period of mourning for the state.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer Perry Renn, Tipton County Deputy Sheriff Jacob Calvin and Gary Police Officer Jeffrey Westerfield were all killed on duty last week while protecting the public.
